We offer a variety of interactive experiences for students in third grade and older that bring history to life and help students develop a deeper understanding of Mdewakanton Dakota lifeways through hands-on learning and immersive experiences.
Reasons to Book a Field Trip at Hoċokata Ṫi
- Our exhibit, Mdewakanton: Dwellers of the Spirit Lake, features interactive elements where students can sit within a traditional Dakota tipi, touch the hides of animals traditionally hunted by the Dakota people, hear words of the Dakota language, and more.
- Our friendly and knowledgeable cultural interpreters guide students through the exhibit, providing engaging insights into the displays, artifacts, and history of the Mdewakanton Dakota.
- In addition to a guided tour, groups can choose from a variety of educational activities designed to deepen students’ understanding of Dakota people and lifeways, including art projects, language classes, tours of the SMSC Collections, presentations, and more.
